- Describe
the pulleys that may be found in use at school. Give examples
of their use. Sketch two of the pulley systems discovered.
- Design
a simple machine, i.e. block and tackle, to demonstrate its effectiveness
in moving large objects. Create a pulley system to support your
ideas, then demonstrate the machine at work.
-
Determine what types of pulley systems were needed to transport
the crushing batteries overland to the mining sites. Create a
simple machine/pulley system, which could be used to model those
early day mining practices.
Students
will become 'Scientists of the Future', designing a simple
machine for the year 2090. A variety of laboratories
focusing on the seven intelligences will be set up. Each will
contain the tools and materials of the different intelligences
for students to use as they create their machine. Observe
students as they work in the labs of their choice. Note the
lab to which they are drawn and how they utilize the materials
in each.
