- Organize
students in groups of up to four per group. Each student group
should contain a variety of ability levels.
- The
Introduction section of each activity may be read
as a class or by the student groups.
- Each
group should have a job for each group member, which can be alternated
so that each has an opportunity to complete that job. Examples
would include: reader, recorder, etc.
- Determine
prior to the activities which should be completed by the student
groups or on an individual basis.
Provide
resource books and internet sites of Australian reptiles, i.e.,
poisonous snakes, for students to research and explore. Additional
pictures will supplement their research in creating mythological
creatures.
Gather
materials and books which portray creatures from mythology for students
to use as a guide. Have the students identify special features of
mythological creatures which they can use in creating their own
characters.
Provide
a variety of newspapers as examples for students to use in creating
their articles. Select an article in which to identify the five
Ws of reporting and have students discuss prior to the lesson.
Provide internet sites and resource materials
that describe crocodile habitats. Have students collect clip art,
photographs, and diagrams, which illustrate those habitats.
Provide
resource materials, i.e. encyclopedias, dinosaur books, prehistoric
timelines for students to reference as they create their crocodile
history timelines.
Provide students with outline maps of Australia
to use in identifing settlement patterns of the Australian people
and the estuary environments of crocodiles.
