Expedition 360 is the first attempt to circumnavigate the world using only human power (of British origin). Since departing the Greenwich Meridian Line in 1994, Jason Lewis has travelled 24,000 miles - over half way around the planet - without assistance from either motors or the wind; pedalling a one-of-a-kind pedal boat across the world's oceans, bicycling and rollerblading over land.

Others have joined Jason along the way. April Abril for example, a 5th grade teacher from Colorado, USA, has to date pedalled three sections as part of the team: Colorado to San Francisco by bike, the Solomon Islands to Australia by pedal boat and most recently across Australia by mountain bike.

Achievements

On August 18th 2000, Lewis became the first in history topedal the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco in the US to Cairns, Australia - 178days and 8,500 miles. In 1994, original pedal partner Steve Smith(now retired from the expedition) and Lewis completed the

first East-West crossing of the Atlantic by pedal power, and a year later Lewis completed the first unsupported crossing of the USA by roller blades.

With over half of what has been described as 'one of the last great human challenges' completed, it is expected for the remaining 12,000 miles to take a further 3-4 years to finish.

Education

As well as being an immense physical challenge, Expedition 360 is an educational tool for teachers to use in the classroom, and a way for children around the world to make connections with each other. 400 schools in 10 different countries have so far been visited.

Over the years teams of teenagers and teachers have joined Expedition 360 on different legs of the journey, exploring interesting aspects of the environment and people then recording their findings with video clips, photographs and written lesson activities. The most recent program in the 'Let's Explore...' series was hosted from Australia. Three teenagers and two teachers mountain biked 3,500 miles across the outback, targeting interesting 'Discovery Zones' along the way that formed the basis of engaging learning experiences for students back home in the classroom.

California registered 501 c 3 Non-for Profit Status was secured in 1998 to service these educational activities.
