Seeking humour and company after his solo pedal from Hawaii, Jason decided to invite original boat builder Chris Tipper to accompany him for the 1,300-mile stretch from Tarawa to the Solomon Islands.

They departed Port Betio on May 30th 2000, making excellent progress towards the north coast of Malaita. The biggest challenges were Chris's smelly feet and his equally atrocious cooking skills.

When they neared making landfall however a major conflict flared between the two islands of Malaita and Guadalcanal, forcing the evacuation of most foreigners from the region. Jason and Chris, with daily advice via satellite from Jason's father in the UK, made temporary landfall in the town of Auki on Malaita. Click here to find out more about this section.
