Q:
how experienced do you have to be to embark on a adventure like
this?
>>
JASON: Steve and I had
less than 10 days worth of sea experience between us before setting
out to pedal the 4,300 miles across the Atlantic
Ocean in 1994. The only real training
we'd had for deep ocean navigating was a theory based Yacht Master's
course back in London.
April
had never been to sea before she pedaled 1,100 miles across the
Coral Sea from the Solomon
Islands to Australia.
I'd
been out just a few times on rollerblades before setting out from
Miami in May, 1995 to eventually become the first to cross the US
solo on in-line skates.
Jenny
Mackenzie had never ridden a bike more than a few miles before pedaling
3,500 miles from San
Francisco to Guatemala.
So
as you can see, Expedition 360 is not about experts doing what they
know they can do. Its about ordinary people doing rather out-of-the-ordinary
things. Its more about attitude than proven experience or
fancy gear.
Anything
can be accomplished from an individual achieving their own
dream to humanity living sustainably within the biological constraints
of the planet if we just put out hearts and minds to it.
