>> SEA TRIALS - STAGE 1

Moksha’s first introduction to water was in the form of a self-right test. The purpose of this was to simulate a real-life capsize at sea.

The worst-case-scenario tested for was the boat nearing the end of a long voyage with all the ballast of food and emergency water consumed and the prospect of negotiating large, in-shore breakers that could easily flip the boat over.

With this in mind we used a crane to tip the boat over artificially: first with the hatch closed; then with the hatch open (again – simulating the worst case scenario). When we felt confident enough that she wasn’t going to sink, Jason and Kenny sat inside to film for the documentary.

>> SEA TRIALS - STAGE 2

The next stage was to try out a custom built propeller made by Bruntons Propellers in Sudbury, Suffolk.

That first morning of pedaling by Jason and Steve on Ardleigh Resevoir were the first of many thousands of hours they would spend over the next 9 + years pedaling Moksha around the planet! It was also a great opportunity to invite the press along and start generating publicity for the project.

>> SEA TRIALS - STAGE 3

Finally we took Moksha down to Salcombe in Devon to take her out for an extended pedal and get acquainted with the ‘briny’ proper.
