"...I
used to travel with my backpack alone or with someone because
I have always been interested and curious in different cultures
and peoples. I needed adventures and links outside France
to abolish the world's borders and the lack of respect of
differences; and also to prove to myself that I was able to
face unusual situations. On a personal level I'm looking for
answers to my own dissatisfactions, trying to improve myself
and realise things I want to be..."

"...A
bicycle trip to Peru - an unlikely trip for me; I was a bit
afraid because somewhere in my childhood I had decided that
Mexico and Central America were dirty, poor, depressed places.
I was interested in bicycles in theory, but had never done
more than commute to work on one, and I certainly was not
athletic (a relaxing holiday on the beach was more my speed).
But for some strange reason I found myself on lonely stretches
of highway in California, Mexico and Guatemala, pedaling a
bicycle laden with gear, armed only with a map, often without
a clue as to my destination..." |

JOHN WEED (kayak guide)
Country >>
USA,
California
Age >>
42 yrs
John's
plans for a quiet solo kayaking vacation around the Bahia
de los Angeles area in Baja Califormia were abruptly blown
out of the water when the team rolled up on the beach one
afternoon and insist he join the intended kayak leg across
the Sea of Cortez. Being the only one with a shred of knowledge
of what they were getting into, John kindly coached the team
in the fine art of staying afloat in a sea kayak for more
than a few seconds at a time and generally kept them alive
long enough during the month-long jaunt to see the other side. |
