Commencing
Friday 31st March 2007, the expedition used bikes to head west out
of Djibouti and north through Ethiopia before following the River
Nile into the roadless desert of northern Sudan. After a near catastrophic
crossing by kayak of Lake Nasser between Sudan and Egypt, in which
Jason was detained by the Egyptian Military for espionage and faced
with 40-years in prison, permission from Cairo HQ came through at
the 11th hour and he was released and allowed to continue.
The expedition resumed northwards through Egypt towards the Sinai
desert and across to Jordan, Syria and Turkey. This leg was completed
6th August with Jason rowing a traditional 'kayik' across the Bosphorus
to the European side of Istanbul.
