The expedition has been totally grass roots since its inception in 1992, able to move onto the next stage only when the combined efforts of individuals we meet along the way provide the means to do so. No corporate underwriting has ever been forthcoming. This, along with other factors such as Jason’s accident in 1995 and the El Nino effect halting the Central American leg in 1997, has resulted in the project taking so much longer than initially expected.
